Colocasia stem raita / Kesuvina dantina sasive




Colocasia (Kesu in Kannada) is widely available in India and its leaves, roots and stem are being cooked in different parts of India. Colocasia helps in reducing cancer rate (as per American Journal of Clinical study). 

We can also grow this easily in the pots and does not require much care. 

We can prepare majjige huli, karagali, huli, sasive etc. Using these stems. Here is colocasia stem sasive recipe.

Ingredients
Colocasia stem - 1 large bunch
Red Chillies - 6 to 8
Grated coconut - 1 cup
Mustard seeds - 1 spoon
Tamarind - 1 medium lemon sized
Curd - 1 cup
Salt to taste

For seasoning
Oil - 3 spoons
Urad Dal - 1 spoon
Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
Turmeric powder - 1 pinch

Method
Wash the colocasia stem and remove the outer layer using fingers as shown in the picture.  Now finely chop the stems.

Cook these chopped stems along with a cup of water and little salt for about 10 mins. Switch of the stove and allow it cool down.

Finely grind grated coconut, mustard seeds, red chillies, tamarind by adding half cup water. Add these into cooked colocasia stems, add curd, salt and mix well.

Heat a tempering spatula. Pour the oil, Urad dal and mustard seeds. When mustard seeds starts spattering, add turmeric powder. Switch off the stove and add this to the sasive and mix well.

You can serve this unique dish with rice.
