Recently when I was doing vegetable shopping in Bengaluru madivala market, one uncle was selling milkshake. I was curious and started talking to him, then I came to know about this ingredient called Gond Katira. I had gond earlier in the form of antinunde, but gond katira is new to me. I tried milkshake and liked it, especially the texture and the cooling effect it provides to the body.
Gond Katira and chia seeds absorb a lot of liquid when soaked in water, forming a gel like consistency that has a cooling effect. By consuming this gel, you can fight off the intense heat and reduce your body temperature.
I have also tried with soaked and ground dryfruit and mango pulp. It was good too.
Here is the recipe of Gond Katira, Kesar and Chia seeds milkshake.
Its advised to have during summers (While Gond is used during winters, Gond Katira is used during summers).
Ingredients
Milk - 2 cups
Chia seeds - 2 spoons
Kesar - 8 to 10 pieces
Sugar - 2 spoons
Method
Soak Gond Katira for about 5 to 6 hours (soaking for minimum 5 hours is must). It will become like jelly.
Boil the milk and keep it in fridge (if you prefer cold) 2 hours before preparing milk shake.
Soak chia seeds in water for an hour.
In a blender (or mixer grinder), blend cold milk, sugar, cardamom powder and soaked kesar for about a minute.
Add soaked gond katir and soaked chia seeds equally divided into two glasses. Now add blended milk shake. Mix well and serve.
