Black night shade leaves curry / Kashi soppina palya / Ganike soppina palya

Black night shade leaves (known as kashi soppu, kaki soppu, Ganike soppu in Kannada) is one of the vegetables I have grown up eating pretty often. These greens are rich in calcium, iron, phosphorus and vitamin C. Dishes from these leaves are often served to new moms due to their nutritional values.

Here is recipes of curry prepared using these leaves and sprouted green gram.

Ingredients
Kashi soppu - 3 cups
Sprouted green gram - 1 cup
Onions - 3
Green chillies - 3 to 4
Garlic cloves - 8 to 10
Ginger - one small piece
Salt to taste
Grated coconut - 4 spoons

For tempering

Oil - 3 spoons
Urad dal - 1 spoon
Mustard seeds - 1/2 spoon
Turmeric powder - 1 pinch

Method
Finely wash the kashi soppu and chop into small pieces. Chop onions, garlic, green chillies into small pieces.

Prepare the green gram sprouts. Please refer to here to know how to sprout the green gram.

Heat a thick bottomed kadai. Pour oil. Add urad dal, mustard seeds and turmeric powder. When mustard seeds start spattering, add green chillies, garlic and roast. After 15 seconds add onions and stir fry for about 30 seconds.  Now add green gram sprouts and cook for about 5 minutes without adding water (do not close the lid, keep on stirring so that content does not stick to the kadai). Add chopped kashi soppu, add salt and mix well. Cook without closing the lid and by occasionally stirring. Cook for about 15 minutes.

Add grated coconut and mix well. This curry tastes so yummy. You can serve this with rice / chapati / roti etc.
