Malabar spinach raita, Basale soppina sasive



Malabar Spinach or basale soppu is an excellent source of iron, calcium, Vitamin C and Vitamin A. It provides cooling effect to the body. Dishes of basale soppu are served to the people suffering from mouth ulcers.

Basale soppu is used to prepare Sambar, Palya, Raita and Dose. I am sharing raita / sasive / same recipe herewith. 

Ingredients
Basale soppu - 1 medium sized bunch
Grated coconut - 8 to 10 spoons
Green chillies - 2 to 3
Mustard seeds - 1 spoon
Curd - 1 cup
Onion - 2 medium sized
Salt to taste

For tempering 
Oil - 1 spoon
Mustard seeds 14 spoon
Red chilly - 1/2

Method

Wash and finely chop the Malabar Spinach. Cook along with a cup of water for about 5 minutes. Allow it to cool down.

Remove the skin of the onions and chop them into fine pieces. 

Grind grated coconut, mustard seeds, green chillies. Add this, curd to the cooked Malabar Spinach, add salt, chopped onions and mix well.

Heat a small tempering vessel (preferably iron vessel), add oil, mustard seeds and red chilly. When mustard seeds start spattering, add this to the Raita.

This can be served with rice.
