Dodda patre soup / Indian borage soup



ದೊಡ್ಡಪತ್ರೆ / ಸಾಂಬಾರ್ ಬಳ್ಳಿ / Indian Borage (Dodda patre / Sambar balli / Sambar soppu) is a green leafy vegetable / herb which can be used for cooking as well as medicine for cold and cough. It can be easily grown in kitchen garden. Here is therecipe of soup. This soup will provide soothing effect to the throat when we have cold.


Ingredients
Dodda patre leaves - 25 to 30
Barley - 2 to 3 spoons (depending on the thickness of the soup)
Pepper powder - 1/8th spoon
Butter - 1/2 spoon 
Salt to taste


Method
Wash and chop the dodda patre leaves into small pieces. 

Roast barley and grind it into fine powder.

Heat a thick bottomed vessel and add the butter. When butter melts add chopped dodda patre leaves. Roast it for about 2-3 minutes. Add 4 cups of water, salt and allow it to boil. Now add barley powder, pepper powder and cook for about 5-6 minutes.

Healthy soup is ready to serve. Serve hot.
