Lemon grass Raita / Majjige hullina tambuli


Lemon grass (known as as Majjige hullu in Kannada) are aromatic leaves used in some of the dishes in South India. Lemon grass can be grown in pot and requires very less maintenance (please refer to the photo below). 


Lemongrass might help prevent the growth of some bacteria and yeast. Lemongrass also contains substances that are thought to relieve pain and swelling, reduce fever, improve levels of sugar and cholesterol in the blood, stimulate the uterus and menstrual flow, and have antioxidant properties.

I frequently add this while preparing tea. It enhances the aroma of the tea. I have learnt Lemon grass Raita recipe from my sister in law recently. It is easy to prepare. Sharing this for you to try.


Ingredients
Lemon grass - 5 to 6 leaves
Ginger - 1/2 inch
Grated coconut - 7 to 8 spoons
Butter milk - 2 cups
Salt to taste

Method
Wash and chop the lemon grass and cook for about 10 minutes along with a cup of water. Allow it to cool down.

Stain the lemon grass cooked water. Grind the cooked lemon grass and separate out the juice. 

Now grind grated coconut along with ginger by adding lemon grass juice and also lemon grass cooked water using a mixer grinder. Add butter milk, salt to taste and mix well.

This can be consumed as a drink or can be served along with rice.
