Green pigeon peas (Called as ತೊಗರಿ ಕಾಳು / thogari kalu in Kannada) is rich source of protein. Now that its the season here in Bengaluru, i make it point to buy and prepare dishes using it. Usually i used to cook Dal. For a change, i tried Rotti and i turned out yummy. Sharing the recipe here. Please try and share your comments.

Ingredients
Green pigeon peas / ತೊಗರಿ ಕಾಳು - 1/2 kg
Rice flour - 2 cups
Medium sized Onions - 3 to 4
Green chillies - 4
Coriander leaves - one small bunch
Oil - 4 to 5 spoons
Salt to taste

Method
Separate out the green pigeon peas by removing the outer cover. Wash the same and cook with 1 cup of water using pressure cooker (cook for about 4 whistles so that it get cooked properly).

While cooker cools down, wash and chop the onions and coriander leaves. Also prepare green chilly paste.

Separate out the water from the cooked pigeon peas. Retain the pigeon peas cooked water. Grind the cooked pigeon peas in a mixer grinder without adding water.

Now mix all the ingredients with ground pigeon peas except oil. Mix well so that soft solid dough is made. Add pigeon peas cooked water as needed while mixing.

To make the rotti, if you have banana leaves use it. Otherwise you can use thick plastic sheet. Spread the oil on the plastic sheet using palm. Take tennis ball sized dough and make thin rotti using palm.

Heat the Chapati / roti tawa and grease it with oil. Transfer the rotti from plastic to tawa using palm. Cook on both the sides. Serve with Chutney / ghee.
