Daliya Sweet Pongal

Broken wheat also called as Daliya is a great source of fiber. When i get into experiment mode on recipes, i go for alternate options for the same recipe. I used to prepare rice Pongal, i also tried Beaten rice Pongal. My recent experiment is the Daliya Pongal. Have tried multiple times by now and many of my relatives loved it. Here is the recipe for you all.

Ingredients
Daliya - 1 Cup
Mong Dal - 0.5 Cup
Jaggery powder - 1.5 Cups
Salt - 1/4 spoon
Ghee - 1/4 cup
Cashew - 10 to 12 pieces
Dried coconut - 1/2

Method
Heat a thick bottomed kadai / pressure cooker. Pour daliya and mong dal. Roast it in very low flame for about 10 minutes till it is finely roasted.

Please note that finely roasting of daliya is extremely important, otherwise Pongal becomes sticky.

Add 5 cups of water onto the roasted daliya and mong dal. Add salt as well and pressure cook it until cooker whistles 4 times. Switch off the flame and allow it to cool down.

Heat a thick bottomed Kadai. Pour jaggery powder and 1/4 cup of water and boil it by keeping on stirring until Jaggery thin syrup is formed.

Now add the cooked Daliya, Mong dal into the jaggery syrup and cook it in medium fame by keep on stirring also by adding little by little ghee. Switch of the flame.

Chop the dried coconut and cashews into small pieces.

Heat a small pan. Add 3 spoons of ghee. Add chopped dried coconut, cashwes and cook in low flame till they turn brown. Add this to the Pongal and mix well.
