Ramba Paka / Nendran Banana Jamun

When we visit friends and relatives houses, one exciting thing is the different variety of food they offer. Especially when we visit different places, we get to taste local dishes.  One such recipe i learnt in Mangalore is Ramba Paka / Nedran Banana Jamun. Pretty simple and different recipe.  Need to use moderately ripe banana.

Ingredients

Nedran (Kerala) Banana (ನೇಂದ್ರ ಬಾಳೆ ಹಣ್ಣು )  - 3
Ghee - 2 Cups

For Sugar Syrup
Sugar - 2 Cups
Water for Sugar Syrup - 1 Cup
Saffron / Kesar - 0.5 Grams

Method

Soak the Saffron in 2 to 3 spoons of water for about 30 minutes.

On a thick bottomed vessel, add sugar and water and cook the same in medium flame to prepare sugar syrup. It will take about 5 to 7 minutes to cook syrup. Now add the soaked saffron and boil sugar syrup for another 30 seconds.  Switch off the flame and keep it aside.

Peel the banana skin and cut the banana into pieces as shown in the picture. You can cut the shape and size of the banana pieces as per your interest too.

In a thick bottomed Kadai, heat the ghee. Cook the banana pieces till it turns golden brown. Add the same to the sugar syrup and soak it for 2-3 hours.

Yummy Ramba Paka is ready to serve.
