Sweet Potato Raita / Genasina sasive / Genasina sasme




Sweet Potatoes were once used in abundance but not much used nowadays. Instead people are using more and more potatoes these days. We can replace potatoes by sweet potatoes in couple of recipes.

Sweet Potatoes help you in fitness as it has high fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is rich in vitamin C which helps to improve immunity and rich in vitamin D which helps to build healthy bones.

Here is one simple recipe using Sweet Potato


Ingredients

Sweet potato - about half a kilograms
Onion - 2 medium sized
Curd - 1/2 litre
Coconut - 1/2 medium sized
Mustard - 1/2 spoon
Green chillies - 3
Salt to taste

Method

Wash the sweet potatoes and cut them into 2 to 3 pieces each and cook the same in a pressure cooker until 3 whistles. Allow it to cool.

Now peel off the skin and cut it into small pieces or smash it.

Grind grated coconut, mustard seeds, green chilies into fine paste adding little water. Add the grounded content into the smashed or chopped sweet potatoes. Add finely chopped onions, curd & salt and mix well. Onion helps to enhance the taste and crispiness. 

For tempering, heat the oil in a vessel (preferably iron vessel), add urad dal, mustard seeds and 1 small red chili. As soon as the mustard starts spattering, add to the Raita and mix well.
