Hog Plum Tambuli

Ingredients

Amate Kayi (ಅಮಟೆ ಕಾಯಿ in Kannada) / Indian Hog Plum - 5
Grated Coconut -  1/4th  Cup 
Pepper Powder - 1/4th Tea Spoon
Jaggery - 2 spoons (optional)
Curd - 1/4th cup
Salt to taste

Method

Wash and cook the hog plum along with the water for about 5 minutes. Keep it aside for it will cool down.
Now squeeze out the juice and separate the inner nut. Add a little water to the nut and squeeze out complete juice.

In a mixer grinder add all the ingredients and grind by adding hog plum cooked water and curd. Add the seasoning.

Note: If the Hog Plum is too tender, nut will not be present inside. Hence the whole plum can be used and grinded.

Amate Kayi:  is a seasonal vegetable rarely available during rainy season. It grows in hilly areas, tropical forests. It is rich in vitamin C, Iron, anti-oxidants. Tender Amate Kayi tastes too sour hence can not be eaten directly, but can be used in dishes
 
Tambuli or Tambli: Translated in Kannada as "Tampu" means cold and  "Huli" means sour.
Ingredients of Tambuli:  A small quantity of leafy vegetables grinded alongwith coconut is mixed with large quantity of butter milk. Sometimes this can also be added up with seasoning for better taste. However seasoning is optional
