Banana florets curry

I have shared the recipes of banana blossom chutney and banana blossom curry using inner most portfolio of the flower. Today, I am sharing the recipe of the curry using banana florets (multiple small flowers inside the petals).

Be sure to use fresh banana blossom to cook this (if it is loosely coupled, it means it is old).

Ingredients
Banana flower - 2
Green chillies - 2
Oil - 3 spoons
Curry leaves - 4 to 5
Bengal gram dal - 1 spoon
Mustard seeds - 1 spoon
Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
Onion - 2
Tomatoes - 1
Salt to taste

Method

Wash and remove 2 to 3 red petals of banana flower
and discard it. Remove rest of the red petals and separate out the florets. Remove the inner thick stem (which is larger than all other stems, also its of ball pin structure). Also remove thin skin from the florets and finely chop the florets. Inner thick stem tastes bitter, thats why we need to discard it.

Removing the inner thick stem and outer skin from florets is time consuming and patience testing work. Its a good activity to engage elderly and kids.

Remove the skin of the onions and cut it into small pieces. Chop the tomatoes and green chillies.

Heat a thick bottomed kadai. Add the oil, bengal gram dal, mustard seeds and turmeric powder. When mustard seeds starts spattering, add green chillies, curry leaves and roast it for 15 seconds. Add onions and roast it till they turn golden brown. Now add tomatoes and roast it for one minute.

Add chopped banana florets and salt, little water, close the lid and cook it till it becomes soft.

You can serve this with rice, chapati etc.
