You read it right! Sandalwood leaves.
When I visit places, I look around and am happy to find and pluck different green leafy vegetables which are ignored by the locals because of its abundance. One of my recent picks was sandalwood leaves. Sharing the recipe of sandalwood leaves chutney here with.
Ingredients
Tender sandalwood leaves - 1 cup
Grated coconut - 1 cup
Urad dal - 2 spoons
Red chillies - 3 to 4
Tamarind - 1 gooseberry sized ball
Oil - 1 spoon
Salt to taste
Method
Separate out the sandalwood leaves from attached stem. Use only tender leaves.
Finely wash them.
Heat a kadai. Add urad dal, red chillies, oil. Roast until urad dal turns golden brown. Add sandalwood leaves and roast for about a minute. Allow it to cool down.
Grind this along with grated coconut, tamarind juice and salt.
We can serve this with rice, chapati, dosa etc.
