Tender black pepper Tambuli / Kalumenasu Tambuli



When black pepper (known as kalumenasu in Kannada) is tender, it will be of green color. These fresh tender pepper corns can be used to prepare Tambuli (Please refer to foot note below to know what is Tambuli).

Ingredients
Tender black pepper corns - 2 to 3 spoons
Grated coconut - 8 to 10 spoons
Curd - 1 cup
Salt to taste


For tempering
Oil - 1 spoon
Mustard seeds - 1/4 spoon
Red chilly - 1

Method

Wash and separate out green pepper corns from the attached stem. Grind the same along with grated coconut, curd and salt using a mixer grinder. Add water as needed. 

For tempering, heat a tempering spatula. Add oil, mustard seeds and red chilly. When mustard seeds starts spattering, add it to the tambuli.

You can serve this with rice. 

Tambuli or Tambli: Translated in Kannada as "Tampu" means cold and  "Huli" means sour. 
Ingredients of Tambuli:  A small quantity of leafy vegetables grinded along with coconut is mixed with large quantity of butter milk. Sometimes this can also be added up with seasoning for better taste. However seasoning is optional
