Sesame seeds - Jaggery stuffed chapati, Ellu-Bella Chapati, Til-Gud Chapati

Today is the Makara Sankranti day. In Karnataka, we prepare Ellu-Bella using roasted peanuts, roasted grams, roasted sesame seeds, jaggery and dried coconut. Offer this to god and also distribute the same to relatives, neighbors and friends.

There is a saying in Kannada "Ellu bella thindu olle mathaadi" - means to say eat sesame seeds and Jaggery and talk good words.

When we have so many benefits of ellu-bella as mentioned below, why not make it part of our regular diet?
- reduces inflammation
- mineral rich, improves fertility
- calcium rich, great for bones & thyroid health
- essential fatty acids that improve cardio-vascular health

Here is an easy recipe of chapati stuffed with ellu-bella. Try it out. Eat well, talk well:). Happy Sankranti to all of you.

Ingredients
Wheat flour - 3 cups
Salt to taste
Sesame seeds - 1/2 cup
Jaggery powder - 1/2 cup
Oil - 4 to 5 spoons

Method
Prepare chapati dough using wheat flour, salt and hot water. Kneed the dough properly using hand. Keep aside the chapati dough.

Note:- I add slightly more than 1/2 cup hot water for one cup of wheat flour. You can adjust the consistency by adding more water as needed.

Note:-  If you are going to prepare this next morning and you do not have much time to prepare dough, you can prepare the chapati dough previous night and keep it ready. No need to keep in the fridge.

Now roast the sesame seeds and make it into powder using a mixer grinder. Grate the jaggery into fine powder. Mix both of these well.

Now we are all set to prepare the stuffed chapati.

Take large lemon sized dough and prepare the chapati dough ball. Add wheat flour on both the sides and start making the chapati by using a chapati roller. Make it big.

Now grease the chapati with oil. Add one spoon of sesame seeds+jaggery mix. Spread well. Close the chapati as show in the below photo.

Now roll this stuffed chapati square on wheat flour (both the sides) so that it does not stick to chapati maker. Make the square sized chapati using roller.

Heat iron tawa. Transfer the chapati on to the tawa and cook both the sides. You can optionally add oil while cooking chapati.

Yummy stuffed chapati is ready to serve.
