Mehandi & Amla hair dye

Grey hair is a natural phenomenon with ageing. Some people start getting grey hair at forties or thirties and some people even at late twenties. As long as you are happy to sport grey hair, you need not worry. But some of us like to cover it up naturally. Here is one such natural hair dye to cover grey hair using Mehandi (also called as Henna or madarangi) leaves and gooseberry (called as Amla or Nellikayi in Kannada).

Please note this hair dye will not turn grey hair into black. It will just turn the hair color into golden brown / copper.

I have been applying mehandi as natural hair color over last 5 to 6 years. But recently realized that adding Amla will help retain the color for longer time i.e up to 2 months (an increase of one month compared to just Mehandi).

Some tips to avoid greying of hair
1) eat balanced diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits daily so that there is no nutrient deficiency
2) avoid/minimize stress through meditation / adopting positive approach in life
3) Maintain 6 to 8 hours of sleep everyday
4) Avoid chemical shampoos and hair dyes

Note:- If you are wondering where can you buy Mehandi leaves if you are staying in city.. no need to worry, you can grow this in a pot (as shown in the pic below). After cutting the branches, it will regrow very fast, say within a month.

Ingredients
Mehandi leaves - 1 bunch
Gooseberry - 8 to 10

Method
Separate out the leaves from Mehandi branches. Cleanly wash. Cut the gooseberry into small pieces and remove the seeds. Grind chopped gooseberry and mehandi leaves together into fine paste. Keep it overnight to enhance the color.

Apply all over the hair and allow it to stay for about 2 to 3 hours. Wash cleanly without using shampoo or soap.

Caution - If you have cold, you may to rethink applying mehandi as it may increase cold.
